چکیده

Municipal solid waste (MSW) management is one of the key topics in environmental protection [1]. In England, around 23.7 million tons of household waste was generated in 2009/10, which equates to 1036 Kg per household [2]. The current technologies for MSW treatment are incineration, landfill, composting and anaerobic digestion. Recently, anaerobic conversion of MSW into biogas has attracted growing interest as a promising method to reduce environmental impact and to generate renewable fuel at the same time. However, some MSW contain over 50% lignocellulosic content [3] and anaerobic digestion may not represent the most efficient process. One alternatively approach is to hydrolyze the lignocellulosic component in the MSW into simple sugars and then ferment these sugars into ethanol. It was estimated that around 152 L of ethanol could be generated from a ton of processed MSW [3].

Cellulase Production Under Solid-State Fermentation by Ethanolic Zygomycetes Fungi: Application of Response Surface Methodology

Background and Objectives: Cellulase is an important enzyme with multiple applications in industries, including food, laundry, pharmaceutical, textile, pulp, paper and biofuel industries. Solid-state fermentation (SSF) is a method for cellulase production, which includes several advantages, compared to submerged fermentation. In this study, cellulase was produced by three filamentous fungi, i.e...

Production of cellulose by Aspergillus niger under submerged and solid state fermentation using coir waste as a substrate

Aspergillus niger was used for cellulase production in submerged (SmF) and solid state fermentation (SSF). The maximum production of cellulase was obtained after 72 h of incubation in SSF and 96 h in Smf. The CMCase and FPase activities recorded in SSF were 8.89 and 3.56 U per g of dry mycelial bran (DBM), respectively. Where as in Smf the CMase & FPase activities were found to be 3.29 and 2.3 ...

Process Calorimetry on Solid-state Fermentation of Vinegar Wastes in Bioreactor with Air Pressure Pulsation

Solid-state fermentation (SSF) of vinegar wastes saves environmental resources and helps to recover valuable material for lignocellulose purposes. The development of solid-state fermentation technology is very important for the production of cellulase and ultimately for utilization of natural cellulose. However, inadequate dissipation of heat generated by biological activities has prevented sol...

Optimization for the Production of Cellulase Enzyme from Municipal Solid Waste Residue by Two Novel Cellulolytic Fungi

The main purpose of this study is to reduce the production cost of cellulase by optimizing the production medium and using an alternative carbon source such as municipal solid waste residue. In the present investigation, we aim to isolate the two novel cellulase producing fungi (Aspergillus niger and Trichoderma sp.) from municipal solid waste. Municipal solid waste residue (4-5% (w/v)) and pep...

Fungal solid-state fermentation and various methods of enhancement in cellulase production

Cellulase serves vast applications in the industries of biofuel, pulp and paper, detergent and textile. With the presence of its three components i.e. endoglucanase, exoglucanase and bglucosidase, the enzyme can effectively depolymerize the cellulose chains in lignocellulosic substrate to produce smaller sugar units that consist of cellobiose and glucose. Fungi are the most suitable cellulase p...
